Azure Engineer (Windows Server Cluster)
We are looking for a skilled Azure Engineer with expertise in Windows Server Clustering to join our client’s team, a prominent leader in financial services. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing a complex infrastructure, focusing on the deployment and maintenance of Windows Server Clusters and Azure environments. Your expertise will help ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability within a hybrid cloud setup that includes both Azure Stack Hub and Azure Public environments.
Core Technologies:
- Operating Systems and Clustering: Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022, Windows Failover Clustering
- Database Solutions: SQL Server AlwaysOn
- Cloud Environments: Azure Stack Hub, Azure Stack HCI, Azure Local, Azure Public
- Virtualization and DevOps Tools: Hyper-V, Azure DevOps, ARM Templates, Bicep
- Scripting: PowerShell
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage Windows Server Clusters, ensuring high availability and stability for critical applications.
- Deploy and maintain SQL Server AlwaysOn configurations within clustered environments, providing robust, fail-safe database solutions.
- Administer and support Azure Stack Hub, Azure Stack HCI and Azure Public environments, including networking, storage, and virtual machine management.
- Building environments for web hosting solutions on Azure WebApp and IIS that support .NET.
- Work closely with development, operations, and infrastructure teams to build and maintain seamless CI/CD workflows using Azure DevOps.
- Supporting and deploying identity services based on EntraID, ADFS, AD.
- Oversee virtualization infrastructure using Hyper-V, optimizing resource allocation and improving performance.
- Develop, implement, and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation, configuration management, and monitoring.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues across on-premises and cloud environments, working proactively to resolve potential disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal policies for security and regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance and support to cross-functional teams, helping to drive best practices in Azure and Windows Server Clustering.
- Willingness to participate in shift planning and weekend operational support.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Azure Engineer, Windows Server Engineer, or in a similar infrastructure role.
- In-depth expertise with Windows Server 2019, 2022, Windows Failover Clustering, and SQL Server AlwaysOn.
- Experience with supporting server hardware and management software HP OpenView and DELL OpenManage.
- Proficiency in monitoring software and hardware with SCOM.
- Competency with hosting DNS zones on Windows Server and Azure.
- Experience with Azure DevOps Server, support and migration to Azure DevOps Service, building self-hosted agent images.
- Basic experience with Docker and AKS.
- Strong knowledge of Azure services, including both Azure Stack Hub, Azure Stack HCI and Azure Public environments.
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline management and automation.
- Experience supporting and migrating Azure DevOps
- Proficiency in virtualization technologies, specifically Hyper-V using Storage Spaces Direct deployment scenarios.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting skills for automation and process optimization.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, especially in high-availability setups.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluency in English and proficiency in German is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in regulated environments, particularly in financial services.
- Familiarity with additional infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools and practices.
- Active participation in tech communities, professional development activities, or open-source projects.
