Application Engineer - 2nd Line Support

We are looking for an Application Engineer – 2nd Line Support to support and maintain business‑critical application infrastructure in an international environment.

This role focuses on application and infrastructure support, database administration, and system monitoring. You will work during defined service hours and participate in an on‑call rotation outside of standard working hours, ensuring system stability and high availability.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Administration and maintenance of application infrastructure
• Support and operation of test, reference, and production environments
• Handling incidents and problems as part of 2nd line support
• Participation in on‑call duties outside regular service hours
• Operational database administration
• Application and infrastructure monitoring
• Analysis of system and application logs
• Support of Java‑based applications running on Apache and Tomcat
• Monitoring and operation of batch processing and automation
• Escalation of complex issues to 3rd line support teams when required
• Cooperation with technical and business stakeholders
• Working in accordance with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, and Change Management)
• Creation and maintenance of operational documentation and knowledge base

What We’re Looking For

• Fluent German and English (spoken and written)
• Experience in 2nd line application and infrastructure support
• Advanced knowledge of Windows Server environments
• Basic knowledge of Linux systems
• Experience with Apache Web Server and Tomcat administration and configuration
• Database administration experience with Oracle Database and MySQL
• Experience with application and infrastructure monitoring tools (CheckMK)
• Scripting experience using PowerShell
• Good understanding of ITIL processes

Nice to Have

• Java SE knowledge, especially for log and error analysis
• ITIL v4 (or newer) certification
• Experience working in high‑availability environments
• Advanced Linux administration or shell scripting skills
