The opportunity

This opportunity is within the BackBase Customer Experience team on the Atos National Savings and Investments (NS&I) Account. NS&I is the UK Government’s Savings Bank which offers Savings products to residents of the UK.

The Team is responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting several Key NS&I business systems which comprise of Web services, Websites and Mobile Applications.

The successful candidate will join a small team of 8 developers focused on delivering the NS&I Mobile Application roadmap and be involved in the banks digital transformation.

 

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

The role will primarily support NS&I’s Android Mobile Transactional Savings App which is built using the BackBase Banking Engine.

  • Be part of face-to-face and telephone conferences with the originators of the change request to fully identify their requirements and subsequently offer solutions, identify risks and estimate the likely cost of implementing the solution(s).
  • Prepare systems for User Assurance Testing by releasing new versions of systems.
  • Provide technical advice and support to account staff and to other IT teams. and mentor less experienced team members in the use of standard methodology across all the disciplines used.

 

Skills you need to have:

  • Understanding of Devops culture, philosophies, practices and tooling to increase an organisation’s ability to deliver application and services at higher velocities than traditional development practices.
  • Track record of delivering Technical Solutions
  • Strong Problem Solving and Communication Skills
  • Writing clean and efficient code for Android applications
  • Understands mobile development lifecycle, has prior app development experience 5 Years +.
  • Proven experience with Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Android NDK
  • You have developed at least three apps, of which at least one is available via Google Play
  • We won’t have to tell you anything about mobile development for Android - you will teach us your best practices.
  • Familiar with RESTful APIs, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), version control systems (GitHub), Fastlane, Firebase, JIRA and Confluence.
  • Awareness of security practices, e.g. OWASP Top 10
  • You are excellent in reading code in order to be able to analyse quickly.
  • Monitoring the performance of live apps and work on optimizing them at the code level
  • Identifying and resolving bottlenecks, rectifying bugs and enhancing application performance
  • Performing unit and instrumentation tests on code
  • Staying up to date with new mobile technology trends, applications, and protocols
