We are seeking a highly skilled Linux System Engineer (SME) to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing Linux-based systems to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability. You will also drive automation initiatives and enforce best practices for system administration and security.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • System Administration & Maintenance
    • Ensure system health, stability, and high availability.
    • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues proactively.
    • Install, configure, and update operating systems and software packages.
    • Create and manage file systems, user accounts, and access controls.
  • Automation & Optimization
    • Develop and maintain Ansible automation scripts.
    • Implement clustering and automation solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Security & Compliance
    • Enforce security policies for users and systems.
    • Implement and maintain firewall and intrusion detection systems.
    • Manage password and identity policies.
  • Backup & Recovery
    • Design and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Hardware & Network Management
    • Verify peripheral functionality and arrange hardware repairs when needed.
    • Monitor network communication and ensure connectivity.
    • Configure network interfaces, bonding, routing, NFS, and Samba.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
    • Maintain internal documentation and wiki for processes and configurations.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Operating Systems: Expertise in Linux (SUSE, CentOS/RedHat); ability to diagnose CPU, memory, networking, and disk I/O issues.
  • Package Management: Experience with RPM/Yum.
  • System Administration: Strong knowledge of packages, users, ACLs, resource management, and securing base installations.
  • Scripting & Tools: Proficiency with command-line tools (AWK, sed, grep) and scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python).
  • Networking: Understanding of TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancing clusters; experience configuring interfaces, bonding, routes, NFS, Samba.
  • Automation Tools: Hands-on experience with Ansible; familiarity with Chef, Puppet, SELinux (advantage).
  • Monitoring & IT Tools: Knowledge of BSA, Flexera, Nagios, and other monitoring tools.
  • Virtualization: Experience with hypervisors (VMWare, Xen, KVM) is a plus.
