Job Summary:
The Senior Legal Counsel - Employment Law is responsible for leading the employment law function within GEOs UK, Ireland and BNN (Belux, Netherlands and Nordics. This role involves providing strategic legal advice and support on all employment-related matters, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations, and managing employment-related disputes and litigation. The Senior Legal Counsel - Employment Law will work closely with senior management, Employee Relations, HR, Legal and other departments to develop and implement policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice on UK, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Nordics employment law matters, including recruitment, contracts, employee relations, terminations, and disputes.
- Provide technical legal advice on TUPE (service provision change) and business transfers.
- Experience in matters related to Compensation & Benefits (bonus and commission plans, pay reviews, etc.).
- Experience advising on employment law issues connected with senior hirings and exits.
- Provide expert legal advice on industrial relations issues, including collective bargaining units, industrial action, etc.
- Advise on the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures in compliance with employment law.
- Manage employment-related litigation and disputes with conciliation services and opposing counsel, and work with external counsel on tribunal work.
- Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure consistent application of employment policies and practices.
- Conduct training and workshops on employment law topics for HR and management teams.
- Monitor changes in employment law and regulations and advise on necessary adjustments to company policies.
Qualifications:
- Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) (preferred) with experience in employment law. Can also be a qualified lawyer in one of the other applicable jurisdictions with extensive experience in employment law in the UK.
- Proven track record in managing employment law matters in private practice or in-house in a corporate environment.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- Extensive experience in drafting employment related agreements.
