Platform Engineer - ServiceNow (Global Role)
Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced ServiceNow Platform Engineer who will design, build, integrate, secure, optimize, and support the ServiceNow AI Platform. The role will provide hands-on engineering expertise across platform configuration, enterprise integration, intelligent automation, security, performance, release management, and technical governance.
In this global role, you will design and deliver next-generation AI-powered solutions, intelligent workflows, and reusable accelerators that strengthen our ServiceNow portfolio and help shape the future of digital transformation.
You will work closely with architects, product leaders, engineering teams, and business stakeholders across regions to build scalable platform capabilities, develop differentiated intellectual property, and accelerate the adoption of AI-driven automation. This role is ideal for someone who combines deep ServiceNow expertise with a passion for emerging AI technologies and enterprise-scale innovation.
The successful candidate must have proven experience engineering ServiceNow in complex enterprise environments, with particular depth in Workflow Data Fabric (WDF), Integration Hub, Workflow Studio, REST and SOAP services, MID Server connectivity, and integration architecture. The candidate must also understand conversational AI and the integration of ServiceNow workflows with physical AI environments, including robotics, autonomous systems, operational technology, Internet of Things devices, sensors, and connected assets.
The candidate must work effectively with Solution and Technical Architects, platform owners, cybersecurity teams, integration teams, data teams, AI specialists, developers, operations teams, vendors, and senior customer stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Engineering
- Engineer, configure, enhance, and support ServiceNow platform capabilities across development, test, and production environments.
- Build reusable platform services using scoped applications, App Engine, Flow Designer, Workflow Studio, business rules, Script Includes, scheduled jobs, events, notifications, UI policies, client scripts, and platform APIs.
- Apply ServiceNow development standards, object-oriented JavaScript, Glide APIs, configuration-first principles, and upgrade-safe design practices.
- Provide detailed technical design input to Solution, Technical, Security, Data, Integration, and AI Architects, including estimates, dependencies, constraints, and implementation options.
Integration and Workflow Data Fabric
- Design and implement integrations using Workflow Data Fabric, Integration Hub, Workflow Studio, prebuilt spokes, custom spokes, actions, subflows, data fabric tables, and external data connectors.
- Develop inbound and outbound integrations using REST, SOAP, Scripted REST APIs, web services, webhooks, JDBC, SFTP, LDAP, email, file transfer, message queues, and event-driven patterns.
- Configure MID Servers, connection and credential aliases, IntegrationHub ETL, import sets, transform maps, data sources, coalescing, reconciliation, and scheduled ingestion processes.
- Define canonical data models, mappings, validation, normalization, correlation, pagination, throttling, retry, idempotency, exception handling, reconciliation, and monitoring requirements.
- Implement secure authentication using OAuth 2.0, mutual TLS, certificates, JWTs, API keys, and managed credentials, avoiding embedded secrets and shared privileged accounts.
- Produce interface specifications, sequence diagrams, mapping documents, support procedures, operational dashboards, error queues, and integration runbooks.
AI and Intelligent Automation
- Configure and support conversational AI using Virtual Agent, Now Assist, AI Search, natural-language capabilities, AI agents, AI Agent Studio, Assistant Designer, and conversational integrations.
- Develop governed agentic workflows that retrieve context, invoke approved tools, update records, initiate workflows, and interact with enterprise systems through secure integrations.
- Integrate ServiceNow with physical AI and connected environments, including robotics, autonomous devices, OT, IoT, sensors, digital control platforms, and asset-management systems.
- Design physical-AI workflows that ingest telemetry and state, generate events and work, invoke authorized commands, and preserve human approval, safety, auditability, and fail-safe behavior.
- Apply AI governance controls covering model and tool access, data grounding, prompt and configuration management, testing, observability, output validation, privacy, and protection against data leakage or prompt-based attacks.
Platform Security
- Design and maintain roles, groups, access-control rules, security attributes, user criteria, scoped-application boundaries, and segregation-of-duties controls.
- Apply least-privilege and need-to-know principles to users, integration accounts, service accounts, AI agents, APIs, MID Servers, and administrative capabilities.
- Support single sign-on, multifactor authentication, OAuth, certificate management, encryption, data classification, secure credential storage, audit logging, and security monitoring.
- Harden integrations and MID Server connectivity through network segmentation, restricted egress, proxy controls, certificate validation, credential rotation, monitored service accounts, and controlled command execution.
- Use Security Center, Access Analyzer, platform logs, audit history, and enterprise security tooling to identify insecure configurations and support remediation.
- Perform secure code and configuration reviews, identify excessive access, insecure scripting, exposed secrets, weak authentication, and unsafe data-handling practices, and implement corrective action.
Performance, Optimization, and Technical Debt
- Monitor and optimize platform performance, availability, scalability, usability, manageability, and upgradeability.
- Analyze slow transactions, inefficient queries, missing indexes, synchronous processing, large data volumes, event storms, integration backlogs, scheduled jobs, flow execution, table growth, and excessive logging.
- Optimize scripts, business rules, flows, integrations, APIs, reporting, archiving, retention, and data-loading patterns without compromising functional or security requirements.
- Use HealthScan, Instance Scan, performance analytics, system diagnostics, transaction logs, and platform health data to identify defects, technical debt, and improvement opportunities.
- Define optimization backlogs, remediation priorities, success measures, and technical-debt controls, and verify that corrective actions deliver measurable improvement.
- Assess new ServiceNow releases, Store applications, patches, and platform capabilities, and recommend adoption, remediation, or retirement actions.
DevOps, Testing, and Release Engineering
- Support source control, application repositories, update sets, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, code review, branching, environment promotion, and release governance.
- Develop unit, integration, regression, security, performance, and user acceptance test assets, using Automated Test Framework where appropriate.
- Implement integration test harnesses, mocks, controlled test data, negative testing, retry testing, rate-limit testing, and failure-recovery scenarios.
- Support clones, upgrades, patching, instance configuration, release validation, rollback planning, production deployment, hypercare, and operational handover.
- Maintain technical documentation, configuration records, code comments, deployment evidence, support procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.
Architecture, Governance, and Collaboration
- Lead or support technical workshops, integration discovery, platform assessments, design reviews, security reviews, and optimization sessions.
- Translate business and architectural requirements into implementable technical designs, user stories, acceptance criteria, data requirements, and non-functional requirements.
- Challenge designs that create unnecessary customization, duplicated integration logic, insecure access, tight coupling, poor performance, unsupported technology, or avoidable upgrade risk.
- Work with customer and supplier teams to resolve cross-system defects, clarify ownership, manage dependencies, and coordinate end-to-end testing and deployment.
- Provide technical guidance to developers, administrators, integration engineers, and support teams, and contribute reusable standards, templates, accelerators, and engineering patterns.
- Support pre-sales activities, including discovery, solution shaping, demonstrations, estimates, proposals, statements of work, and technical presentations.
