Homeland & NATO is a business unit established across three core countries—Spain, Switzerland, and Romania—with a strong ambition for further European growth. The unit specializes in deploying communication solutions, dedicated IT infrastructure, emergency management systems, and homeland protection technologies. With a team of around 250 people and an annual turnover of approximately 60 million euros, this role represents a significant leadership opportunity.

 

The Head of the Business Unit (SBU) leads the end‑to‑end business lifecycle—from solution design through delivery, operations, and maintenance—while driving commercial performance and long‑term growth. The role carries full P&L accountability and acts as a central interface with internal stakeholders and external customers.

 

All in all, the key responsibilities will be the following ones:

  • Define and execute the SBU strategy, growth plan, and go to market approach across the core countries and wider Europe (mainly).
  • Own full P&L responsibility, including revenue, margin, cash, and forecast accuracy.
  • Lead business development and key account activities; build and maintain senior customer relationships in the homeland and institutional markets.
  • Oversee solution development and bid management, ensuring competitive, compliant, and value driven proposals.
  • Ensure successful program delivery and service performance, from deployment to support and maintenance, meeting contractual, quality, and security requirements.
  • Build, develop, and retain a high performing team; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence in line with the new MCS 4.0 spirit.
  • Establish robust governance across practices and countries, ensuring clear decision making, prioritization, and performance management.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable regulatory, export control, and security requirements.
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships (industry, system integrators, local partners) to strengthen market access, delivery capacity, and competitiveness.
  • Own the portfolio and solution roadmap, aligning investments with customer needs, technology evolution, and profitability targets.
  • Drive operational excellence across delivery and services, improving cost to serve, quality, and customer satisfaction through standardization and continuous improvement.
  • Lead resource and capacity planning across countries; optimize sourcing, subcontractors, and suppliers to deliver on commitments.
  • Set budgets and investment priorities; monitor KPIs and implement corrective actions to achieve strategic and financial objectives.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for key programs and customers; ensure transparent communication and alignment with corporate functions (finance, legal, HR, security, procurement).
  • Build succession plans and strengthen leadership capability across the SBU, ensuring the right skills and organizational setup to support growth.
  • Ensure the right level of intimacy with the rest of the MCS SBUs and central functions.
  • Take care of the staff and talent, knowing the team, understanding their development interests and supporting them to develop the career towards common interest in the organization, facilitating the rotation and promotions of our team members ​
  • Ensure the business line has the right volume of staff with the right capacities and skills to fulfill new business and the evolution of current business activities

 

The profile that of the candidate should meet the following requirements:

  • 15+ years of international, senior commercial leadership experience, including ownership of growth strategy, sales execution, and customer relationships in the Mission Critical Systems environment, mainly focused on homeland security, public safety and/or emergency management.
  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement and contracting models (tenders, frameworks, competitive dialogues), with proven ability to lead complex bids and negotiations from pursuit to award.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multi‑disciplinary, technology‑driven portfolios spanning solution design, systems integration, deployment, operations, and long‑term maintenance/support.
  • Track record of full business lifecycle management with end‑to‑end P&L ownership, including margin management, cash/working capital discipline, forecasting, and investment prioritisation.
  • Ability to balance strategic direction with operational execution—setting priorities, building governance, and driving performance through clear KPIs and cadence.
  • Proven people leader with experience managing through managers, leading cross‑country teams, and developing talent, succession plans, and an accountable performance culture.
  • Strong stakeholder management and executive presence, capable of engaging credibly with senior customer decision‑makers and aligning internal functions (finance, legal, HR, security, procurement).
  • Experience building and managing partner ecosystems (local partners, system integrators, technology vendors) to improve market access and delivery capability.
  • Experience working in (or with) at least one of the core countries (Spain, Switzerland, Romania) is highly preferred; willingness to travel regularly across the regions. 
  • Regarding languages, it is required to be fluent in English. Proficiency in Spanish, French, and/or German will be a strong advantage
