Job Role : Storage Technical Specialist
Reports To: DCH Storage & Backup
Role Background
The Storage Technical Specialist is a member of the UK Storage & Backup Operations Team. This team has overall responsibility for delivery of technical activities associated with the build and provisioning of new services and the ongoing support of existing services. They ensure that the service provided to Atos customers meets the requirements set out in Service Level and Operational Level Agreements and that project proposals are fulfilled and delivered into support via the Service Acceptance process. Individual team members cover the multiple functions of build, provision and operate providing technical specialisation to support the technologies associated with virtualisation, operating systems, storage, backup and tooling.
Working primarily on a Data Centre Transition, but with a secondary role working on delivery of incremental business on an existing account, this will be a critical role for the Project Delivery Team.
Assignment length expected to be 6 months with possible contract extension if project timescales are moved. There will be expected weekend work in lieu of the usual working days. Project work can come in with tight timescales and at late notice.
Range of Activities and Tasks
- Provision and manage infrastructure using relevant vendor toolsets; NetApp a must.
- Build, manage and implement complex changes that involve multiple disciplines and require structured coordination across teams;
- Manage infrastructure servers, switches, fabrics & tape libraries across the managed estate, including performing routine health checks and patching of these to ensure lifecycle compliance;
- Configuring and amending backups; backup reporting, failure resolution, report creation & distribution;
- Data restoration activities from simple file level restoration through application & database restoration;
- Analysis and proactive response to incidents to ensure that tickets are picked up and dealt with in a timely manner;
- Liaise with 4LS escalation teams, other support teams and/or 3rd party suppliers to facilitate the progression of issues and where necessary ensure that change requests are in place to satisfy site access requirements;
- Provide technical support, maintenance and management of Enterprise Management Monitoring systems and Enterprise Management Data Centre Automation platforms;
- Support and troubleshoot the end to end auto-ticketing process and work to streamline monitoring to provide maximum monitoring with minimal auto-tickets;
- Deploy toolset agents to supported servers;
- Deploy and support highly available virtual applications and desktops via thin client technologies;
- Contribute to change reviews in accordance with ITIL principles and present changes to the Change Advisory Board;
- Attend Operational Readiness reviews and Service Acceptance Meetings;
- Adhere to processes for managing documentation ensuring a high level of quality and accuracy;
- Participate in internal and external audits and present documentation as required;
- Participate in disaster recovery exercises and invocations as necessary;
- Provide assistance during the service/infrastructure decommissioning process;
- Provide on the job training and technical mentoring for other members of staff;
- Assist managers with a range of delegated tasks that may include leading specific activities, acting as a technical lead or basic supervisory activities within own team or for another team if required;

- Demonstrates an understanding of the concepts of delivering successful projects;
- Aptitude in critical analysis and demonstrates use of this to deliver against milestones and deadlines; Able to thoroughly investigate and resolve complex problems to a high technical standard;

Desirable Criteria
- ITIL v3 Foundation accreditation.
- Knowledge of IP networking technologies;
- Knowledge of SNMP / agent based monitoring;
- Experience with VMWare
- A degree of technical competence in Operating Systems:
- Microsoft Windows Server
- Linux RedHat
- Unix
- Automation toolsets e.g. Ansible.
- Openstack
