About the role:

The Ab Initio Data Management Consultant will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to design, build, and optimise scalable data solutions across complex ETL pipelines.

The role involves developing and enhancing Ab Initio components, managing AutoSys job schedules, and ensuring seamless integration and high performance across all data processes. The consultant will also support production deployments, troubleshoot issues, and uphold strong quality and coding standards throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to translate requirements into high‑quality data solutions while ensuring reliability, performance, and seamless system integration.
  • Analyse data needs and collaborate with analysts, developers, and architects to design scalable solutions on the Ab Initio platform.
  • Build, enhance and deploy Ab Initio graphs, plans, PDL, and reusable ETL components. In line with standards and quality controls
  • Optimise existing Ab Initio processes for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Designing, creating, and maintaining complex AutoSys job schedules for end-to-end batch and real-time data processing, again in line with standards and quality controls.
  • Troubleshooting AutoSys job failures, dependency issues, and workflow breakdowns.
  • Optimising AutoSys job chains for performance, reliability, and minimal overlap.
  • Working closely with operations teams to ensure 24×7 availability
  • Review developer outputs and provide structured feedback for improvement.

 

Skills We Cannot Do Without

  • Expert-level experience with AutoSys job scheduling.
  • Strong proficiency with Ab Initio (GDE, Co>Op, Conduct>It, Control Center).
  • Solid knowledge of Unix/Linux, Shell Сscripting, and strong SQL skills for validation, tuning, and debugging.

 

Skills We’d Like

  • Experience working in large enterprise data environments with complex data flows.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with business users.
  • Proven analytical/problem‑solving ability and capability to work independently while mentoring junior team members.
  • Experience in agile or hybrid delivery environments.

Note: This role is UK-based and offers a remote working opportunity, with occasional UK domestic travel as required. The successful candidate should hold or be capable of obtaining SC clearance to work with UK public sector organisations.
