We’re looking for an Operations Engineer with 1-2 years of experience to be responsible for performing computer operations tasks in a large Mainframe, Wintel/UNIX, AS400 data center environment to include duties for daily monitoring of consoles, utilization of support tools, perform batch processing, monitor mainframe and midrange environments and Junior Sys Admin roles. 

 

*This is an onsite position in San Angelo or Austin Texas.

 

What will you be doing:
• Perform defined tasks per documented instructions/processes, Monitors and manipulates daily system jobs, Maintains incident logs for all monitored systems, Manages computer resources efficiently to provide maximum throughput and adequate system response 
• Monitor IBM mainframe consoles, analyze system messages, troubleshoot and resolves events, perform IPL's, update supporting process documentation 
• Perform Production Control duties for mainframe and midrange batch utilizing scheduling toolsets, execute jobs for batch processing and monitor to completion, troubleshoot/triage job failures and work closely with support teams to identify root cause identification and resolution 
• Escalate/report the repair of Mainframe, AS/400 and Windows/Unix servers 
• Perform level 1/2 Windows OS maintenance and troubleshooting 
• Perform Windows Server monthly security patching, change management functions, customer coordination, BigFix interaction, successfully apply Microsoft patches within allotted maintenance windows 
• Monitor performance of all enterprise servers, networks, communications devices, etc. 
• Ensure department standards, procedures, and processes are followed, adherence to service level agreements, monitor processing issue resolution activities to ensure completion in a satisfactory and timely manner  

 

Requirements:
• Strong analytic experience and troubleshooting skills is required 
• Availability to work day or night shift, adhere to 12 hr work schedule, work weekends and holidays when required 
• Logical thinker with ability to solve complex problems, quickly analyze problems and implement solutions, adapt to data center evolving environment as required 
• Responds to customer incoming telephone calls and email, escalate and engage next tier support, coordinate resolution, engage Major Incident Manager, update tower/account management 
• Troubleshoot priority 1-4 ticket requests, monitor department ticket queues, identify problem and initiate write up, ensure detailed updates, provide accurate description of issue, document detailed work activity, identify related issues, see issue to resolution or escalate to next tier 
• Adhere to Change management processes, able to initialize and create change tickets, assess the change impacts, support communication efforts, identify and manage action deliverables, analyze and prepare risk mitigation tactics, coordinate with customers and support teams, evaluate and ensure change actions are documented and acted on appropriately, work with change managers to complete presentations, attend CAB meetings, define and measure success and remedy failures 
• Maintain client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential 
• Responsible for monitoring water alarm, fire alarm, and power protection systems (UPS) in the computer operations area
