Data Engineer – Platform: Job Description

Role Overview

Sanofi's RnD Data Products team is looking for a Data Engineer (Platform) to design, build, and maintain data products, pipelines and transversal capabilities that support R&D decision-making across a global pharma organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade data platform with data observability capabilities.
• Build and optimise scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows.
• Develop and deploy cloud-native solutions on AWS.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce coding standards and testing practices.
• Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and product managers to deliver technical solutions.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and design decisions.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of professional data engineering experience with data infrastructure and data platform expertise.
• SQL and Python (primary) – clean, efficient, well-tested code.
• Proven track record of successfully designing, building, and deploying complex data platforms and data products, with deep knowledge of modern data engineering tech stack (Airflow, DBT, Snowflake and AWS native services).
• Experience with data observability tools (Datadog, Monte Carlo or customized tools).
• Cloud Ops – monitoring, cost management, infrastructure reliability.
• Git, CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions).
• Agile/Scrum.

Nice-to-Have

• Pharma, life sciences industry experience.
• RESTful API and microservices development.
• Data governance, lineage, or metadata management.

• Clear communicator across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative and effective in globally distributed teams.
• Self-starter with strong ownership and initiative.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
