Job in a nutshell:

 

To assist with the day to day running of all UK Data Centres and customer remote sites to ensure maximum uptime of customer systems. To develop the skills in hardware installation, network cabling and site documentation. 

 

What will you be doing:

 

  • Monitor the computer suites and hardware contained therein, ensuring all equipment is working in a satisfactory manner, and follow documented procedures for rectifying any problems. 
  • Carry out Data Centre audits including hardware, power and network cabling. 
  • Create processes, procedures and operations that meet the agreed service levels and availability criteria within Data Centres and provide advice / guidance accordingly. 
  • Act as the escalation point (including out of hours) for all incidents that impact the Data Centre customer systems. 
  • Perform rack and hardware installations including motherboard, disk, psu and memory swap-outs. 
  • Provide expert technical advice. 
  • Build a relationship with the customer, support teams and other third-party companies. 
  • Liaison with DCH Management and account teams for any Data Centre related issues 
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with staff, client representatives and key stakeholders to present a professional image at all times. 
  • Availability to provide smart hands for remote customer sites. 
  • Undertake asset management responsibilities for all hardware installs and decoms. 
  • Perform housekeeping tasks on a range of software including Word, Excel & Visio 
  • To manage changes or incidents that come through to the team and see them through to a positive solution. 
  • Liaise with 3rd party vendors to organize secure destruction of old hardware, sensitive media etc. 
  • Assist in the development of procedures, reporting methods and data collection systems for the area. 
  • Maintain stock control of customer hardware, site spares and materials.  
  • Complete all checklists, logs and reports accurately and promptly, ensuring efficient filing and distribution. 

 

Requirements:

 

General: 

 

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with senior managers, customers and support teams. 
  • Be a good communicator and collaborative team player. 
  • The ability to work unsupervised.  
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail; good skills in organizing / scheduling work and tasks 
  • Flexible approach to working hours and location in line with business requirements. 
  • Awareness on business activities on site 
  • Ability to understand the business impact of a problem and to manage an effective solution. 

 

Technical:

 

  • Some visibility of computer hardware, replacing disks, memory, psu’s etc. 
  • Ability to use PCs, printers and other associated peripherals. 
  • High level of initiative and the ability to work proactively with little supervision. 
  • Possess a professional and cooperative attitude, with ability to stay focused in high-stress situations.  
  • High emphasis on objective delivery and team-work activities.

Qualifications & Experience   

 

Essential: 

  • Holder of a full “British” driving license.
  • Good computing skills and computer literacy 

 

Desirable: 

 

A qualification in Computing is desirable but not essential. 

Good working knowledge of Excel, other relevant Microsoft products 

 

Security clearance Level 

 

Security Clearance to BC(E) level will be required. 

Security Clearance to a higher level may be required, if called upon for such activities
