Job Title

Interventional Radiology Coder

US  Wide - Remote

 

Job Description:

The coders should have experience in coding for Interventional Radiology procedures, to include both CPTs and modifiers. They will need to be proficient in both professional and hospital coding. The individual will also need to be able to review and check for CCI bundling edits as well as NCD/LCD edits.

 

SUMMARY

 

Analyzes medical records and abstracts clinical data by assigning codes from patient records in accordance to coding classification systems. Reviews patient encounters for accurate code assignment of all relevant diagnosis and procedures. Enters appropriate codes into the hospital's mainframe computer for the transfer of data to billing files for reimbursement. Queries physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

 

1.            Analyzes medical records to abstract clinical data by assigning codes from patient records in accordance with the coding classification systems of ICD-10-CM and/or CPT. 

2.            Reviews patient encounters for accurate code assignment(s) of all relevant diagnosis, procedures, and/or modifiers. 

3.            Applies guidelines as indicated through the Local Coverage Determination (LCD), National Coverage Determination (NCD), as well as the National Correct Coding Initiative (CCI).

4.            Coder meets and maintains a production rate of 90% or higher.

5.            Coder meets and maintains an accuracy rate of 95% on all coded records.

6.            Queries physicians and/or departments when code assignments are not straightforward or if documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposes.  

7.            Resolves claim and billing edits as well as denials by performing second review of medical record documentation and code assignments.

8.            Review and provide resolution of edits/warnings.

 

Coder will assign codes to medical diagnoses and procedures using appropriate coding classifications for assigned areas/record types.

Responsibilities:

Reviews medical records to determine all appropriate diagnostic and procedural code assignments using the appropriate classifications systems.

Communicates with department manager/supervisor on coding, compliance and documentation issues.

Seeks clarification from healthcare providers or other designated resources to ensure accurate and complete coding.

Enhances coding knowledge and skills with continuing education activities and by reviewing pertinent literature.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Required Skills

  • Prior Oncology Coding experience
  • Must  have a Coding Certification from AHIMA or AAPC
  • 3+ years Coder work experience
  • EPIC/3M experience a plus
  • Audited regularly with expected 95% or better
  • Candidates will be required to complete a coding assessment
