About the role

The key objective of the Head of Data Protection Atos BTS is to provide strategic and regulatory compliance support on general data protection regulation and other data privacy laws and regulation. The role holder will lead the data protection team, part of the Risk and Assurance Directorate, be responsible for the delivery of second line assurance and advice and horizon scanning acting as a technical expert on GDPR providing accurate and timely advice to the business to maintain ongoing compliance with relevant regulation.


This role is available remote (UK wide). The position will also require travelling to other Atos BTS operational location to engage with key stakeholders. Occasional trips to London may be required.




  • Establishing and maintaining close working relationships with all operational teams as well as with the relevant change teams acting as a trusted point of technical / SME advice and mentorship during the assessment of data protection breaches. Assisting in the development of remedial actions and supervise remediation of past DP issues.
  • Advising the relevant Boards, Governance Committees and Management on data protection issues.
  • Issuing regular reports to the relevant Committees and forums on DP including information on regulatory changes; breaches, errors and omissions; and assurance monitoring activities.
  • Producing and maintaining appropriate data protection policies and procedures for Atos BTS.
  • Developing networks to collect and share information to gain new insights with both internal and external stakeholders. Coordinate work across the firm and clients to gain input and build communities of interest around specific topics
  • Promoting and improving the DP governance culture within BTS.
  • To design and lead the performance of assurance assessment and gap analysis of process and procedures against data protection regulatory requirements.
  • To supervise compliance with data protection and privacy legislation in an environment dealing with significant amounts of personal data. Understand DPA and FOIA rules and principle-based regulation and use risk-based techniques to assess compliance requirements, mitigations, and weaknesses.
  • Supporting 1st line operational staff and management in assessing their DP regulatory risk and controls, including DSAR and FOIA requests.
  • Delivering effective education to business on DP and regulatory risk/upstream risk management through developing and reviewing training to meet specific needs of stakeholders.
  • Leading the team ensuring personal development opportunities are identified and each staff member has objectives in line with Atos policies.
  • Continuous liaison with those responsible for data protection for our clients including the requirement to hold regular joint governance meetings.

Competences and skills:

  • Experience on national and European data protection laws and practices, in-depth understanding of the GDPR and knowledge of the UK Data Protection Bill.
  • Experience conducting data privacy compliance assurance reviews and running information and data security activities in a business environment.
  • Proven experience in development and management of information and data security assurance programmes, including third parties as a leading authority to all Atos business units
  • Ability to provide clear advice and direction even when dealing with ambiguity, challenging demands and short deadlines.
  • The ability to promote a data protection culture within Atos, building relationships and influencing key stakeholders within a complex business environment to build the reputation of information and data security across Atos



  • Expert knowledge of Data Protection regulatory risk environment and operation of regulatory bodies.
  • Experience of interpreting DP regulatory requirements within the financial services industry – minimum 5 years experience.
  • DP Practitioner Certificate, ISEB or equivalent Data Protection qualification.
