About the BA and CX team

The Business Analysis and Customer Experience team is a key part of Digital Application Services, helping shape and deliver technology-enabled change across applications, platforms and digital services. The team works closely with product, engineering, architecture, service and operational colleagues to define requirements, analyse system impacts, improve end-to-end services and support the delivery of robust, scalable and user-centred solutions. While the team remains focused on customer and colleague outcomes, its role is strongly grounded in technical analysis, digital delivery and continuous improvement across the service landscape.

We are looking for a strong Technical Business Analyst to work on complex digital and technology change. This role is suited to an experienced analyst who is equally comfortable working with business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, and who can translate business needs into clear, structured and actionable requirements for design, build, test and implementation.

You will take ownership of analysis across the full delivery lifecycle, from discovery and definition through to delivery support and continuous improvement. You will be expected to analyse processes, systems, integrations, APIs, data flows and business rules, and to produce high-quality artefacts that support solution design and delivery. You will work closely with product owners, engineers, architects, testers, delivery managers and operational stakeholders to ensure solutions are feasible, well-defined, traceable and aligned to customer, business and regulatory needs.

As a Technical Business Analyst you will:

  • Lead analysis activities across discovery, design and delivery, bringing structure and clarity to complex business and technology change.
  • Elicit, analyse and document business, functional and non-functional requirements using appropriate techniques such as workshops, interviews, observation, document analysis and data investigation.
  • Translate business needs into clear user stories, epics, acceptance criteria, business rules and supporting artefacts that are ready for technical design, build and test.
  • Analyse end-to-end processes, customer journeys, system interactions and operational impacts to identify improvement opportunities and inform solution options.
  • Work closely with engineers, architects and solution designers to define system behaviour, integration points, interface requirements, API interactions and technical dependencies.
  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical analysis artefacts including process models, data mappings, source-to-target mappings, sequence diagrams, logical flows and traceability documentation.
  • Analyse structured and unstructured data to support solution definition, impact assessment, defect investigation and decision-making.
  • Support backlog refinement and prioritisation with Product Owners and delivery teams, ensuring requirements are clear, testable, traceable and aligned to business value.
  • Assess change impacts across systems, processes, data and teams, identifying risks, assumptions, constraints and dependencies.
  • Work with test teams and stakeholders to support test scenario definition, validation, defect triage and solution acceptance.
  • Champion customer and colleague needs throughout analysis and delivery, ensuring solutions are practical, usable and aligned to the intended experience.
  • Collaborate effectively within agile multidisciplinary teams and contribute to continuous improvement in analysis standards, ways of working and team capability.

Skills and experience we can’t do without:

  • Technical Business Analysis experience: Significant experience working as a Technical Business Analyst or Business Systems Analyst in complex technology delivery environments.
  • Requirements definition: Proven ability to elicit, analyse and document business, functional and non-functional requirements, and to produce high-quality user stories, acceptance criteria and supporting analysis artefacts.
  • Systems and integration analysis: Strong experience analysing APIs, integrations, interfaces, system interactions and dependencies across complex application landscapes.
  • Data analysis and mapping: Hands-on experience working with data across technologies such as SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle, MongoDB, DynamoDB, JSON and CSV, including data mapping, transformation logic and source-to-target definitions.
  • Technical documentation: Ability to produce clear, structured documentation including process models, workflow diagrams, sequence diagrams, data flows, business rules and traceability matrices.
  • Agile delivery: Proven experience working in agile multidisciplinary teams, supporting backlog refinement, iterative delivery and collaboration across product, engineering, architecture and test.
  • Stakeholder management: Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Problem-solving and delivery focus: Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving and the ability to manage ambiguity while maintaining pace and quality.
  • Tools: Practical experience using analysis and collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Visio, Draw.io or equivalent.
  • Security clearance: SC cleared or eligible to obtain SC clearance.

Skills and experience we’d like:

  • Experience working in financial services, insurance or other regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with the Student Loan Company and its operational, service or technology environment.
  • Knowledge of or experience applying Government Digital Service standards, including the Service Standard and the Technology Code of Practice in public sector digital delivery.
  • Experience working within UK public sector, government or arms-length body environments, with an understanding of service delivery, governance and assurance expectations.
  • Familiarity with accessibility, inclusive design and service assessment expectations for digital services, including working with multidisciplinary teams to evidence readiness and quality.
  • Familiarity with customer journey mapping, service improvement and customer experience frameworks.
  • Experience working on large programmes involving multiple scrum teams, shared services and complex dependencies.
  • Knowledge of integration platforms and middleware such as MuleSoft or similar technologies.
