The opportunity

The Senior Accounts Assistant will be part of the Finance Operations team and will be responsible for managing the financial transactions that impact the client’s ledger for their legacy business and for the contractual KPIs management within target. The role has a significant risk management element and is required to work within a robust risk and control framework.

 

This is a full time, permanent role based in our Edinburgh office at Edinburgh Park. Occasional travel may be required to our Lytham office.

BPSS Security Clearance will also be required to undertake this role.

 

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Perform reconciliations and carry out in-depth investigations back to source system to understand and articulate actions needed to resolve exceptions.
  • Carry out tasks in relation to banking services.
  • Carry out analysis of ledger balances and trends highlighting issues to manager and stakeholders.
  • Identify any issues with recognition of income/expenses impacting financial reporting.
  • Complete and issue trial balances for ledgers in the team’s remit to standard and deadline.
  • Monitor and ensure that controls are operating as expected over financial records and transactions.
  • Provide input and technical commentary into the production of department metrics and monthly MI packs.
  • Participate in cross-departmental working groups to help resolve issues and drive improvements.
  • Establish and maintain key relationships with managers in first line risk and controls and customer service areas to highlight processes issues and improvement.
  • Respond to queries advised from business areas within service standard.
  • Contribute to local and corporate projects including being involved in testing and creation of technical specs team training ensuring all risk and controls are addressed throughout the process.
  • Provide support and training to colleagues to contribute with the team development and learning process.
  • Conduct sampling on processes carried out in the team to help identify training needs and support the Manager with management activities
  • Ownership and responsibility. Ensure SOX principles are followed. Highlight any vital changes that need to be made on processes and their respective documentation, ensuring that business practices are followed.

Skills we can’t do without:

  • Previous experience working in a Finance role.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, which is clear and suited to audience. Ability to articulate technical aspects of the accounting framework in an effective way.
  • Excellent PC skills. MS office tools with a good to proficiency level of MS excel.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and be self-motivated as well as part of a Team. Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with co-workers and Managers promoting team collaboration and positive interactions.
  • Accuracy in performing tasks. Excellent time management skills, planning and organisation. Ability to easily adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to plan and work with tight deadlines without compromising quality. Positive & flexible attitude.
  • Ability to Influence colleagues and key stakeholders in a Tactful Manner.

 

Skills we’d like:

  • Accounting qualification or working towards ACCA/CIMA
