The opportunity

We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to work in the Finance Operations team based in Edinburgh. The area is responsible for managing the financial transactions that impact the client’s ledger for their legacy business and for managing the contractual critical metrics within target. This includes the processing of cash receipts and payments and the financial relationship with IFAs (including the maintenance of agency data). The role has a significant risk management element to it and the team are required to work within a robust risk and controls framework.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform reconciliations to standard and deadline highlighting any issues.
  • Identify accounting and transaction anomalies within reconciliations and investigate and resolve these.
  • Carry out day to day tasks in relation to banking services including receipting of money in, processing payments out and reconciling BACS, cheque and DD payments.
  • Performing daily cash flow forecasts.
  • Process journals including month end accruals to ensure records are complete and accurate.
  • Carry out investigations into money received into bank account with no identifiers.
  • Process payments runs for IFA payments.
  • Carry out calculations for commission payments and liaise with IFAs to resolve queries around these.
  • Respond to queries directed from business areas within service standard.
  • Contribute to change initiatives within Finance Operations to improve current working practices and controls.
  • Ensure you have a sound knowledge of SOX principles and controls and adhere to these.

Requirements

  • Be able to acquire a BPSS clearance
  • Previous experience working in Life and Pensions
  • Good oral and written communication, which is clear and suited to audience
  • Good PC skills including MS office and in particular MS excel
  • Ability to work on own initiative and be self-motivated
  • Accuracy in performing tasks
  • Be a teammate who demonstrates good collaboration across team
  • Demonstrates good time management skills, well planned and organised. Easily adapts to changing priorities
  • Ability to plan and work to tight deadlines without compromising accuracy
  • Positive & flexible attitude
  • Ability to influence colleagues and key partners in a Tactful Manner

 

Skills we’d like

  • Accounting qualification or working towards CAT, ACCA/CIMA
  • Previous experience of working in a Finance role
  • Good breadth and depth of knowledge of general ledger accounting
  • Proven experience in analytical thinking and problem solving
