Critical to its successful business transformation, in 1999 NS&I outsourced its entire operations department, with 4,200 staff .

The transformation project is a partnership, underpinned by close collaboration at senior management level.

Atos is a permanent member of the NS&I Executive Committee, and most NS&I operational committees have Atos representation.

NS&I and Atos set strategy together, develop action plans, and resolve issues.


Digital Architect - NS&I


This is a senior remote role within the NS&I CTO team - client locations are North East (Durham), London, or Glasgow, so travel to these will be required.


You will be responsible for the delivery of the Digital Technology Strategy for the NS&I account. You will be the focal point for ensuring the technical integrity and application of the digital strategy Reporting to the Chief Architect within the CIO function, the Digital Architect ensures that the Digital Technology Strategy is maintained, updated and applied consistently, giving strong technical direction whilst maintaining the operational integrity of the IT system and services.

  • Experienced Technical Leader and proactive self-starter
  • Will implement defined policies and strategies whilst contributing and extending the same
  • Specialist in Dev Ops principles, understanding the pragmatic application of the same
  • Understanding and appreciation of Digital toolsets
  • Experience in transformation to Digital and transition to a Digital estate from legacy
  • Detailed understanding and experience of RPA, with the ability to craft digital process and models
  • Experience in Public Sector (Primary), Experience in Financial Sector (Secondary)
  • Digital Architect (senior Technical Architect), experienced with Digital transformation, APIs
  • Cloud, Containers, Service and Orchestration layer architecture
  • Must have strong background in Agile development and DevOps.


Business Skills and Behaviours


  • Develop positive relationships with the client becoming a trusted advisor
  • Provides operational ownership of the end-to-end Account Architecture mainly focused on Managed Services
  • Know and understand the NS&I infrastructure and application architecture across all constituent parts
  • Contribute and support the development of technology strategy, roadmaps and future state architectures for NS&I in conjunction with the Chief Architect/CIO and the client’s business strategy
  • Provide direction and guidance on all technical aspects of the IT systems, ensuring adherence to relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices
  • Acts as the Digital TDA for the change management/release and Service acceptance processes
  • Contribute to the risk management Framework/Internal and External Audits
  • Ensure appropriate high-level design documentation is produced as a recognised set of deliverables that are consistent to the Atos Architecture Methodologies and Frameworks (UEM, LAEF, TAEF and SAEF). This does not preclude the CSA from contributing to the production of the documentation
  • Contribute to NS&I’s innovation process, ensuring that developments in the Atos portfolio are considered and presented to the client where relevant
  • Maintain an awareness of and promote any relevant statutory, internal, or external regulations, standards, and codes of good practice, e.g. those relating to security, quality, data protection, audit etc.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Senior-level Design/Architecture experience within an enterprise applications setting
  • Experience in modern toolsets and methodologies; DevOps, Agile/Hybrid, Jenkins, Maven, Selenium etc.
  • Knowledge of moving from legacy ERP systems to modern digital solutions
  • Strong technical judgment and thought leadership - comfortable getting into the details when necessary and taking ownership of issue resolution
  • Presentation skills! Presence and credibility in front of customers and senior leaders, experience as an influencer
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills especially in a multi-cultural environment
  • A great teammate with excellent collaboration skills
  • Vendor management and negotiation skills
  • English business fluent
  • Willingness to travel


Desirable criteria:


  • Demonstrable experience leading and running a large team, budgetary management, performance/appraisal management
